The Gold Line is the nick-name Chicago traders give to the data transmission route that links the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). It crosses Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, in less than 0,0085 seconds, both ways.
Radius’ new exhibition DECADE examines slowness, calling attention to radio’s relationship to time. The Gold Line, is part of DECADE audio-visual exhibition at ESS sound art gallery, 15 May to 30 June 2020, Chicago.
As the sociologist Lutz Koepick remarks in Aesthetics and Politics of Slowness : Slowness allows us to experience our present with all its different speeds, and in all its complexity and diversity. A slowness we sustained during a 24 days high-slow frequency road trip, following the physical route the money algorithms make between the two main exchanges of the world.
Our 19 minutes footage following the route of the towers made for the Radius event can be seen on the tube.
Our 17 minutes radio creation can be heard on the cloud Selected for Radiophrenia 2020.
