Bureau d’Ecoute Intérieur

… Or how to listen without your ears.

In January 2015 we were invited by the Anne Cleary and Denis Connolly to take part in the The Meta-Perception Club, a co-curated series of exhibitions, happenings, a residency and talks that took place at the Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris.

Taking the theme of perception as a starting point, the two artists and the director of CCI invited visual and sound artists, performance poets, jazz, electronic and experimental musicians and creative practitioners, as well as scientists, researchers and a philosopher cum cheese-monger to present their work on perception, as a complement to their fanastic work on metaperceptual helmets. This resulted in three short exhibitions and three multi-disciplinary evenings.

We decided to explore sound perception through bone conduction. We wrote Little Voice, a 7 minutes radio play that can only be heard ‘in your head’ and set up the Bureau d’Ecoute Intérieur, presided by Chef Jeannine and her long suffering employee, Jean-Pierre. Patients are invited to our office for a quick spring clean and service of their cortex. Most seemed to be on better form by the end, as you can see by the pictures below.
